Luchtvaartmuseum

In spite of being the most recent addition to Texel's museums the Island has a long association with aviation continuing to the present day. The museum has an impressive and relevant collection of airplane and aviation related items with entertaining audiovisuals. As the museum is located on the Island's airport - the largest parachute and skydiving facility in the Netherlands apart from having a lot of national and international general aviation traffic- you will also be able to experience the real life aviation atmosphere at first hand. The museum paints a picture of the Island's rich aviation history. Seaplanes operated out of the 'Mokbaai' near the present ferry harbour from 1920 - 1940, the present airport was opened in 1937 with a service to Amsterdam by KLM. And played a role in WW II. The museum also covers a very important aspect of local wartime history; the rising of the Georgian troops at the closure of the second world war. This event having an enormous impact on local life is covered in depth by pictures, artifacts and uniforms of that period. This museum comes highly recommended.
